Kevin Dorn

Performing Thursday, Friday and Saturday

Kevin Dorn is one of the busiest drummers in traditional jazz.  He has played with many NCJF musicians including Dan Barrett, Ed Polcer, Dick Hyman, and Mark Shane.  He has played with a number of traditional big bands, appeared on TV and at numerous Jazz Festivals and has performed at such notable New York City venues as Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, the Iridium Jazz Club, and the famous Birdland Jazz Club where he currently plays every Wednesday with the Louis Armstrong Centennial Band.  From 2002 to 2004, Kevin was the drummer for the Jim Cullum Jazz Band, appearing on their weekly public radio show, Riverwalk Live from the Landing.  He then returned to New York and formed the Traditional Jazz Collective (now known as The Big 72) with a group of young musicians who have performed at concerts and festivals to rave reviews.  They play regularly at various jazz clubs around the city and play biweekly at the Garage in Greenwich Village.  This will be Kevin’s third appearance at the North Carolina Jazz Festival.
