Chuck Redd

Chuck Redd is a seasoned performer on both drums and vibraphone.  He began performing internationally in 1980, at age 21, when he joined the Charlie Byrd Trio and the Great Guitars Trio with Barney Kessel, Charlie Byrd and Herb Elis.  He is featured on over 35 recordings, including his second as a leader, “All This and Heaven Too” featuring George Mraz, Gene Bartoncini, and Ken Peplowski.  He has toured and performed with Dizzy Gillespie, Mel Torme, Tommy Flanagan, Ray Brown, Monty Alexander, Tal Farlow, Red Norvo, Dr. Billy Taylor and Marian McPartland, just to name a few.  Chuck was a member of the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra for fifteen years, and now frequently performs in NYC, and headlines nationally at festivals and clubs.  He is on the faculty of the University of Maryland School of Music.  New releases include “When Redd Is Blue”, on Noteworthy CD, with brother Robert on piano and Harry Allen on saxophone and Arbor CD’s “Happy All the Time” – a tribute to Barney Kessel.  Also featured on this cd are Monty Alexander, Jeff Hamilton and Howard Alden.  This will be Chuck’s fifth NCJF appearance.
