Performing Friday and Saturday nights
Adrian Cunningham started his musical career on piano at the age of 16, but is now better known for his ability to swap seamlessly between alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, clarinet and flute. Adrian has toured extensively with his own quartet and has also been a member of two prominent jazz groups: the famous Galapagos Duck and the Sydney All Star Big Band.
Overseas Adrian has played at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland as a special guest as well as other countries in Europe, Asia, North America and Africa. He has released 4 albums as bandleader with his Australian Quartet, and just recently a Benny Goodman centennial tribute DVD, With All Due Respect which was done live at the historic Orpheum Picture Palace in Sydney. In 2005 Adrian was nominated for 2 MO awards: Jazz Instrumentalist of the year and Best Jazz Group.
Adrian is now performing in downtown Manhattan and Harlem with such notable artists as drummer George Coleman Jr. and cornetist Ed Polcer. This will be Adrian’s fourth appearance at the North Carolina Jazz Festival and he will again present a free 1 1/2 hour woodwind workshop for students and educators on Friday afternoon.
